Hi Reader, Let's have some literary fun this weekend! Here, I share the top 10 deep thoughts and fun facts I know about the popular 2005 movie adaptation of Pride and Prejudice by none other than Jane Austen. It's the perfect timing. This month celebrates the 20th anniversary of the film. It's available on Netflix, and it's back in theaters on April 20. It also feels like spring, AND it's included in this month's theme for my Rory Gilmore Book Club to read a classic from the Gilmore Girls reading list. (I rewatched it on Netflix via my Samsung TV. You can check out Samsung’s 2025 Neo QLED TVs here.) 2005 Pride and Prejudice Adaptation: Deep Thoughts and Fun FactsONE. I can still recall the excitement of seeing this film in theaters. I can picture the theater itself, and I can tap into my anticipation. That's how special it felt at the time. TWO. 20 years is a long time in technology. It really says something that the aesthetic of this film is nothing short of stunning. THREE. In case you were wondering (as I was), this film was released after Keira Knightley appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean and Love, Actually. It was before her appearances in literary adaptations of Atonement and Anna Karenina. FOUR. Rosamund Pike (Jane) later got a huge break as the lead in the movie adaptation of Gone Girl (which is also referenced on Gilmore Girls). She also beautifully narrates the Audible Original edition of Pride and Prejudice. Highly recommend! FIVE. Carey Mulligan (Kitty) later starred in the movie adaptation of The Great Gatsby. These Bennet ladies sure have a knack for literature! SIX. In the movie, Elizabeth Bennet reads a book called First Impressions. This was the original title of Pride and Prejudice. SEVEN. The soundtrack makes for excellent reading, studying, and working sound. It's been my go-to for years. If you're a content creator, it also performs well on social media! EIGHT. Mr. Darcy's Pemberley is Basildon Park, set on 400 acres that overlook the River Thames in Berkshire. It was also featured in the literary adaptations Dorian Gray and Bridgerton. And, yes, you can visit it. NINE. Remember to enjoy not just the romance but also the wit that defines Austen. For example, in the movie, Darcy on dancing: “not if I can help it.” And Elizabeth plays piano duets “only when forced.” TEN. It's not an easy feat to capture the beauty of the written word on film. Here, they remain breathtaking. However, note that the famous movie line, "You have bewitched me, body and soul," isn't in the original text. I checked. Gasp! Will you be watching/re-watching this month? Remember, it's a good day to read a book. -Jules P.S. - As a reminder, Samsung’s 2025 Neo QLED TVs have officially launched, bringing groundbreaking innovations powered by Samsung Vision AI! Hi Reader, Happy Independent Bookstore Day! I'll be celebrating at my new local shop and getting coffee with a local Bookstagrammer. Independent bookstores are vital to your local economy.
