Hi Reader, I hope you had a relaxing spring break/holiday weekend, if you were celebrating. We just went to brunch and watched baseball outdoors. The weather has been great in Philly, and spring is in full bloom. Let's catch up with 3 new and exciting bookish things! 1 - A 5-Star Debut, Out Today!Today is a big "pub day" in the book industry, with many buzzy books. The Bright Years is my personal favorite debut novel of the year so far. An epic family saga about the effects of addiction, it reads as a page-turner you can binge during a rainy spring weekend. It's perfect for fans of Mary Beth Keane and Clare Lombardo. Just for you: I sat down and spoke with author Sarah Damoff about how she got her start, her favorite bookstore and bakery, and more!
2- New Celebrity Book Club PicksWe've got two mid-month celebrity book club picks today as well: Oprah and Reese. To be honest, I'm disappointed that these picks are by very well-known authors who don't really need the marketing boost. I also genuinely did not enjoy Reese's pick! 🙊 See what it is and read my review of it HERE. If you're still set on reading it, however, I have a theory that it may be more engaging in print/digital. (I listened to the audio.) I've seen better early reviews from print/digital readers. (By the way, I usually don't share such hot takes on the blog -- only for members -- but since this is such a big book release, I gave you the kind of scoop I usually save for our private, exclusive membership. The first month is always 50% off for email subscribers with code GETFIFTYOFF.) 3- Parnassus Books!!Last week, I visited Nashville, Tennessee, and checked a really BIG item off my literary bucket list: shopping at Ann Patchett's bookstore, Parnassus Books! I've followed them on social media for years, and it was honestly better than I anticipated. It's a large, bustling shop with so much to explore-- and in such thoughtful and creative displays! I shared an image and brief vlog in this updated blog post about Patchett's (my favorite author) best books. You can also see more from Parnassus (and another TN bookstore, Landmark Booksellers) on my Instagram page. Remember, it's a good day to read a book. -Jules |

Hi Reader, Happy Independent Bookstore Day! I'll be celebrating at my new local shop and getting coffee with a local Bookstagrammer. Independent bookstores are vital to your local economy. But your indie bookstores often struggle to compete with big-box stores, particularly online. (For example, Amazon can take losses on books because they make up the profits elsewhere. Your local indie cannot.) To celebrate this holiday, learn more about why independent bookstores matter and how you can...
